The celebrations started last March 20 at Rome’s “La Nuvola” convention center, with a hi-tech exhibition tour illustrating the activities of the Guardia di Finanza, highlighting its process of evolution and projection toward future challenges. From April 23 to June 25, the exhibition “250 Years – Tradition and Future,” a true immersion in the history of the Guardia di Finanza, was held at the Vittoriano Complex.
From June 22 to 24, the celebrations continued with a major event held in the heart of Rome, in Piazza del Popolo, where the “Guardia di Finanza Village” was inaugurated, and in Piazza di Siena with the military ceremony celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the founding.
The Guardia di Finanza will also stop in Gaeta on July 10 and 11, at the Nautical School, with an international conference and exhibitions of air and naval assets. The tour will conclude on Oct. 5 in Turin, Italy, at the headquarters of Palazzo Madama, where the Vittoriano exhibition will be re-enacted, tracing the milestones in the history of the Guardia di Finanza from its origins to the present. The event will be accompanied by a historical re-enactment in Piazza Castello and a concert by the Corps Band at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni. Oct. 5 is an emblematic date for the Guardia di Finanza because on that very day back in 1774, the King of Sardinia, Vittorio Amedeo III, established the Legione Truppe Leggere, a corps to defend the treasury and borders, the forerunner of Italy’s modern economic-financial police.
