Signed in Rome, at the Ministry headquarters, the Memorandum of Understanding that kicks off the project \u201cRestart: let\u2019s take back the future!\u201d The first edition of the initiative will take place in the Lazio Region.<\/em><\/p>\n

Promoting the social reintegration of prisoners through the key tools of training and work. This is, in summary, the aim of the \u201cRestart: let\u2019s take back the future!<\/em>\u201d project promoted by the Lottomatica Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and in partnership with ELIS, a non-profit association specialising in the training and further education of the most socially and economically disadvantaged.<\/p>\n

The memorandum of understanding launching the initiative was signed in Rome at the headquarters of the Ministry of Justice and is valid for one year. The document, which represents the institutional framework within which the operational modalities of the project will then be specifically outlined, was signed by the head of the Department of Prison Administration Giovanni Russo<\/strong>, the head of the Department of Juvenile and Community Justice. Antonio Sangermano<\/strong>, the president of Lottomatica Foundation Riccardo Capecchi<\/strong> and CEO of ELIS Pietro Cum<\/strong>. The Deputy Minister of Justice, Francesco Paolo Sisto<\/strong>, and the CEO of the Lottomatica Group, Guglielmo Angelozzi<\/strong>, were also present at the signing.<\/p>\n

The first, experimental phase of the project will be held in the territory of the Lazio Region. It will be aimed at persons sentenced to imprisonment in one of the regional penal institutions, those subject to probation, alternative sanctions or alternative measures to detention and persons admitted to external criminal enforcement. The operational phase within the Ministry of Justice will be delegated to the Department of Prison Administration or the Department for Juvenile and Community Justice, depending on the target groups involved in the project.<\/p>\n

Those admitted to the program will be trained on the basis of a special and detailed program developed by ELIS. At the end of the training, they will be sent to work in one of the project partner companies. These will be selected from the hundreds that currently belong to Distretto Italia, the community of large and medium-sized companies created by ELIS to promote stable, quality employment in our country.<\/p>\n

The phase of collecting applications from companies will be carried out at the very beginning of the project, so that the selection of people admitted to the program and the training activities will be in line with the needs of the companies. Following the signing of the memorandum of understanding, the timetable envisages the definition of the model and operational processes in the coming weeks, to be followed by the start of the selection of candidates and the implementation of the training courses. The ultimate goal is to get as many of those admitted to the project into work and into the company as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the Ministry of Justice, Article 27 of the Constitution is not just a principle. It must be a choice capable of affecting the reality of sentence execution. The signing of the protocol with the Lottomatica Foundation, the ELIS Centre Association, the Department of Prison Administration and the Department of Juvenile and Community Justice constitutes an important segment of a line that, with continuity and determination, leads to offering the word recovery a concrete chance of results. Work activity, without any doubt, is privileged ground for giving the experience of executing a sentence a constitutionally oriented meaning\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cSocial sustainability is one of the fundamental drivers that guide our choices and our actions. In fact, we are convinced that everyday work must be embedded in a broader perspective that considers the impacts on people, society and the communities in which we are embedded as a top priority. In this sense, the aim is to try to make a contribution to the development of the common good, which also involves training, work and participation. All the elements are present in this initiative, which I am very happy our foundation decided to launch. A project that confirms Lottomatica\u2019s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular to decent work, economic growth and the reduction of inequality\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are excited to contribute to this project in a field, job training, that has always embodied our mission. Work is an essential tool for personal empowerment, offering the opportunity to put oneself at the service of others, and is a founding element of any life project. For this to be possible, there must be adequate training upstream to match workers\u2019 skills with companies\u2019 needs. This is what we will try to do in this project as well, knowing that the phases of requirements gathering, and job training are a fundamental building block. We want to build job placement opportunities that can tangibly result in opportunities for redemption for all the people involved\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cOpportunity building and social restitution, which characterise this initiative in depth, are two of the main objectives to which the foundation has been most committed since its establishment. What we are launching today is a collective project: a coordinated and mutually beneficial action involving a plurality of actors, with the aim of enhancing reintegration and employment opportunities for those who have been convicted of offences, offering a new opportunity to be integrated back into the social fabric of our country through work. We are starting in the Lazio Region, but will be ready to extend the project to other areas of the country in the future\u201d.<\/p>\n
