“Mobile Angel,” the anti-violence smartwatch made by Carabinieri, Soroptimist and Lottomatica Foundation, arrives in Rome

Coming to Rome twenty-one smartwatches to protect women victims of violence. Becoming operational in the capital is the“Mobile Angel” project, a service created through collaboration between Carabinieri and Roman clubs of Soroptimist International, fully supported by the Lottomatica Foundation.

These are state-of-the-art devices connected directly with the operations center of Rome’s provincial Carabinieri Command that, when worn by victims of stalking or otherwise gender-based violence, can send a call for help.

“Mobile Angel” is designed to be easily used by women, who can activate the alarm with a simple gesture, even if they are unable to speak, thanks to the built-in geolocation. In fact, in addition to being able to be activated by the person, the alarm is also triggered automatically in the event of an assault such as a shove or if it is snatched from the wrist, and reaches not only the Carabinieri Operations Center, but also informs the military officer who is following the case and a trusted person indicated by the victim.

The project thus comes into its own in the capital, after the signing of a technical protocol in recent months between the provincial command of the Carabinieri and the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office, and after having already been launched in other cities starting with Naples, Turin and Milan. The “Mobile Angel” is an important step toward early intervention and greater protection for women, coupled with a necessary path to sensitize society, institutions and new generations to the culture of nonviolence.

The Lottomatica Foundation thus renews its commitment to supporting initiatives that use technology to ensure a quick and effective response to those in emergency situations, thus helping to make a difference in preventing violence against women.

We wanted to promote an ‘initiative that had the safeguarding of people in mind,” explained Riccardo Capecchi, president of the Lottomatica Foundation. This project is exactly in line with our values of helping people in need, who need to be given quick and rapid help with technology. History is full of feminicides that could have been prevented if action had been taken quickly and swiftly. We are confident through the speed of intervention that is provided by the Operations Center that we can make a difference.
