Lottomatica Foundation in support of “Sweet Arms,” the project of Isola Tiberina Hospital
On Thursday, Sept. 25, a collaboration was formalized between Lottomatica Foundation and Isola Tiberina – Gemelli Isola Hospital in support of “Sweet Arms – The Cold and the Warm Together to Help Little Ones and Their Parents in the NICU,” a three-year project (2025-2027) that combines technological innovation and the centrality of the family in the care of the most fragile infants.
An answer to a neonatology challenge
“Sweet Arms” was created to address Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy, a condition that affects 3-4 infants per 1,000 live births. Therapeutic hypothermia, if started early, can reduce the risk of severe neurological damage, but it requires advanced equipment and highly trained staff.
For this, the project integrates the purchase of new technologies such as the CritiCool system for therapeutic hypothermia and a video electroencephalograph with h24 teleconsultation, with dedicated training paths for doctors and nurses and with a psychological support service aimed at the families of children admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Objectives and innovative approach
The project is based on three main strands:
- technology enhancement;
- Staff training on IFCDC (Individualized Family and Infant Centered Developmental Care) skills;
- support for families through a dedicated counter, also available online.
The approach is inspired by the principles of parental continuity and so-called “Zero Separation” to ensure a care environment that reduces newborn stress and promotes the psychological well-being of parents.
Lottomatica Foundation’s commitment
Thanks to the Foundation’s support, Isola Tiberina Hospital can strengthen its role as a point of reference for neonatology in Central-Southern Italy, combining technological excellence and attention to the person.
The shared goal is twofold: to improve the clinical outcomes of the most fragile newborns and to offer concrete support to families, including those in situations of social vulnerability or addiction.
With “Sweet Arms,” Lottomatica Foundation renews its commitment to health, prevention and social cohesion by supporting initiatives that combine scientific innovation and solidarity.
